אלולThe Season

When the King leaves the palace

For generations, Chassidim have viewed the month of Elul as a special time of growth, reflection, and preparation for the new year. Among its central teachings is the Alter Rebbe’s famous maamar “Ani Ledodi,” where he introduces the powerful metaphor of “HaMelech BaSadeh” — “The King is in the Field.”

The King Is in the Field is a powerful parable taught by the Alter Rebbe to describe the month of Elul: a time when G-d is especially close, accessible, and ready to welcome each of us with love. The Rebbe returned to this idea hundreds of times, revealing new layers of meaning in nearly every detail of the mashal.

This website provides this special publication which brings together close to 150 insights from the Rebbe on the King in the Field, offering an in-depth overview of this central Elul teaching. Our hope is that studying these insights will deepen our understanding of Elul and help us truly experience what it means to meet the King in the Field.
